Berlin 2025

I recently visited Berlin to run a workshop with a client. I took the opportunity to go a few days early and enjoy one of my favourite cities.

On previous visits I’ve:

Danced until dawn at Berghain
Seen a wonderful avant garde dance performance by Yumiko Yoshioka at Dock 11
Floated at the Liquidrom while listening to Yngwie Malmsteen-inspired trance music
Been moved at the Jewish Museum
Watched Moby DJ in the bottom of the (empty) pool at Stattbad
Danced at the KitKat Klub despite my lack of fetish gear

This time, I took a more relaxed approach but still had a blast.

This week was half term and we went to Florence!

After 15 years of living in London, I still pinch my Midwestern American self that I get to travel so easily in Europe. Travelling to Europe from St. Louis was a dream – and a 6+ hour plane trip on TWA.

Day 0: Arrival

I love travelling from London City Airport. It’s easy to get to, tiny, and I feel like an exec at a bank. A mid-level exec, perhaps, but still exciting! After a relatively smooth flight on a smallish BA plane that makes the trip between Florence and London about 6 times a day, we arrived at Amerigo Vespucci Airport – named for the 15th century Florentine explorer after whom “the Americas” are also named.

Week Notes 19 - 26 April 2024: Spain!

Yes, there was some work… but more importantly, a trip to spain with some longtime friends!

Spain!

Had a great visit to spain with a couple of guy friends who used to be neighbours in Belsize Park. One is now back in Greece, the other is in Canada, and I’ve moved to even more northern London.

We converged in Bilbao to visit the Guggenheim of course. Yes, the building is interesting, but what I most enjoyed was the always-monumental Richard Serra piece “The Matter of Time” where we took a few obligatory selfies.

Tendering continues

Non-stop public sector tendering continues. It’s like a full time job for 2-3 weeks, at least for a micro-company like mine. I’m not sure why this one isn’t using DOS. I’ve now written a couple of case studies – something I should’ve done years ago – and started the actual proposal.
